October 18th, 2008The previously named “Anyone Have Any Ideas?” has received some new tracks and a name change. David recorded some electric guitar, including a track with extensive use of the wah pedal. It makes for a neat, funky sound. :-)
I still want to add a real piano track to this some day…

Microphone building
September 29th, 2008I’ve just built a new microphone. It uses the same Transsound TSB-165A electret condenser capsule as before. However, I am using a better quality transistor at the capsule and different values for the bias resistors, meaning that it should be a bit more balanced than my other mics. I also added a switch that introduces a 10dB pad. (It puts a 250 picofarad capacitor in parallel with the mic capsule, lowering the effective output of the capsule.) I’m not sure if that will be enough to record drums without overloading, so I’m hoping to give that a try soon.
The mic body is a bit different this time around. I used 1 1/4″ aluminum pipe and made the head look a bit different than before. You can check out photos here:
I also just eBayed a Presonus Firepod (same as the FP10; just a different name). It is a firewire recording interface with 8 mic/line inputs and MIDI. This is a definite upgrade from my M-Audio Fast Track Pro and I’m excited to get to use it.
(Anyone want to buy a used Fast Track Pro and/or a used Behringer Eurorack UB1002 mixer?)
